WVC Updates - November 7th 2025
Hello WestVillage,
Your calendars are about to get fuller in the best way possible! From our new Advent series to Pastor Caleb's ordination service to hands-on opportunities to serve, there's so much happening in the weeks ahead. Here's what you need to know:
Advent
Starting November 30th, we're entering Advent with a new series called "Arrival," diving deep into 2 Thessalonians. Each week we'll explore what it means to live in anticipation of Christ's return—not as a distant doctrine, but as a living hope that shapes how we love, work, and wait. The fourth Sunday of Advent, December 21st, we'll gather in the auditorium together, followed by lunch in the cafeteria. Then on Christmas Eve at 4pm, we'll celebrate the arrival that changed everything. Mark your calendars and invite someone who needs hope this season.
Kids
Every Sunday morning, our Sunday School rooms buzz with energy—little hands raised, excited voices sharing what they've learned about Jesus. It's pure joy watching these young hearts grasp God's truths and courageously share what's on their minds. Week after week, seeds are being planted that will bear fruit for a lifetime. Want to be part of this vital ministry? We're always looking for volunteers who love Jesus and love kids.
Upcoming events:
Our hands are ready to serve! On November 22nd from 10am-12pm, families can gather to make sandwiches for Ottawa Innercity Ministries—a simple act that fills bellies and shows Christ's love to our neighbours experiencing homelessness. This is discipleship in action, where kids learn that faith isn't just what we believe, but how we love. Click here to sign up and serve together as a family.
Christmas Craft Day will be hosted at Westminster this year. It will run from 3-5pm. The wreaths that are made will be incorporated into the decor for our Christmas Eve service! Register here so that we have enough supplies.
Women of the Word are gathering and the calendar is filling up! November 15th brings brunch at 10am at Westminster; a morning to slow down, connect, and encourage one another in faith. Then we're flipping to evening mode for December 20th with a Potluck Social at 5pm, because sometimes the best discipleship happens over shared food and laughter. These gatherings create space for the deep friendships that carry us through every season of life. Hover over the dates to sign up and let us know you're coming!
Baptism class meets November 23rd and 30th at 9am—two sessions to explore what this step means. But baptism is more than a ritual; it's a public declaration that your old life has been buried with Christ and you've been raised to new life. It's joining your story to the greatest story ever told. Whether you're ready to take the plunge or just curious about what this act of obedience means, join us in the back gym at Notre Dame High School. We'll wrap up in time for the service. Register here.
We're in a season of seeking, trusting God's timing as we search for our next pastor. The good news? We now have additional support through Steve Adams, who's bringing wisdom and direction to guide us forward. This search isn't just about filling a position—it's about discerning God's choice for someone who will shepherd our hearts and lead us deeper in our walk with Christ. We need your prayers covering this process. Grab a printed prayer guide on Sunday morning or download the PDF here, and if you missed Steve's report, you can watch it here along with the survey results here.
As we've journeyed through this season of transition and pastoral search, you've told us loud and clear: we're hungry for deeper discipleship. We're answering that call with a series of Sunday classes that invite you into the grand, unified story of God's plan for redemption—a narrative that began before time and will conclude in glory. This isn't just Bible knowledge; it's learning to see your own life woven into God's eternal story, understanding how every covenant points to Christ. We kicked off in October with "The Beginning," and now the journey continues. Join us for any or all of these upcoming classes—each one builds your foundation in the faith that holds us together.

As we move through this season of transition, we're discovering fresh hunger for deep roots in God's Word. That's why we're launching Deep Discipleship—a 25-week journey to systematically explore the biblical narrative and practices of spiritual formation. This isn't just information; it's transformation as we learn to weave God's grand story into our daily lives. Join us Wednesday evenings starting January 7th and bring friends along for the journey.
We're excited to share a new resource for your leadership development: Equipped by Grace - 2025 Discipleship Leaders Training. This guide compiles last year's training and provides a foundation for the year ahead. But here's what it's really about: anchoring everything we do in the sovereign grace of God. Because effective discipleship doesn't flow from our cleverness or charisma—it flows from our absolute reliance on Christ, our confidence in Scripture's authority and sufficiency, and our prayerful dependence on the Spirit. When we lead from this posture, we're not just transferring information; we're pointing people to the only One who truly transforms. The guide includes practical resources for growing in Bible study and training others, and it easily adapts for group study. Keep it accessible as you lead your groups, and reach out anytime with questions or if you'd like material from the Sunday discipleship classes.
Next Sunday
November 16th is a milestone moment for our church family! Pastor Caleb will be ordained into the AGC, and we're gathering everyone—from toddlers to grandparents—in the auditorium to witness this significant step in his ministry. This is why we're pausing Sunday School for a Family Service, because some moments are meant to be experienced together as the full body of Christ. We'll have colouring pages available, and the nursery will be set up as a parent's room for restless little ones. Dr. Rick Reed will bring the message from 2 Corinthians 11:16-33, continuing our "When I am Weak" series. Then stick around—we're celebrating with Pastor Caleb! Coffee will be outside the auditorium, with an informal reception and light refreshments in the cafeteria.
Let’s trust in God’s promises in this season. That He would meet our physical needs, giving us the space and time to dive into all He has called us to learn and to do. As we approach Advent let’s ask that we would be a people filled with hope, peace and holy anticipation.
Blessings,
